Choosing fire extinguishers for condos: ABC vs CO2 explained
Compare extinguisher types, their best-fit areas, and the standards developers must know.
Choosing fire extinguishers for condo projects is often underestimated by developers — "pass the standard" is not enough. There are real factors: fire class possibilities, install location, and resident usability.
ABC dry-chemical extinguishers are most common, covering Class A (solids), B (liquids), C (gases/electrical). Ideal for common areas, corridors, and lobbies.
CO2 fits server rooms, main electrical rooms, and high-value electronics areas — no residue, no damage. Costs more and weighs more, however.
Standards developers should know: TIS 332-2537 for ABC extinguishers, NFPA 10 international standard, and the annual inspection cadence required by Thai law.
Bottom line: ABC for common areas + CO2 in technical rooms + annual inspections. The minimum to pass inspection and actually protect residents.
